Within the Atlantic Flyway, the Snowy Plover only occurs on Florida’s narrow fringe of sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico coast. Unlike the “peep” sandpipers, Snowy Plovers usually lay only three eggs in their simple scrapes that serve as nests. Human disturbance, habitat loss, and predation continue to threaten the Snowy Plover and other beach-nesting species.
The Florida Shorebird Alliance, an AFSI partner, posts signs, provides community outreach, and monitors outcomes to improve success of plover nests.
